I can leave the car parked. Here, on this wonderful spot between heaven and earth, nature sets the tone. And the best way to explore it is on foot. It starts right outside the front door of my chalet in Gudon: walking and hiking trails from easy to moderately difficult lead to attractive sights, cosy inns and impressive natural spectacles like the waterfall nearby. This dream location is also an excellent starting point for excursions to the whole of South Tyrol, whether to Bolzano for shopping and a visit to famous glacier mummy Ötzi, or to fashionable Val Gardena for skiing and to the Dolomites for hiking and climbing. But it is also nice to linger in the middle of the green meadow here above Gudon, taking a break and coming to rest!
Picturesque, steeped in history, sunny and friendly. Gudon takes hearts by storm. From its location to its history, the former seat of the High Court is a versatile holiday destination and the perfect starting point for ventures in the Dolomites, the Isarco Valley and further afield. A visit to the manors of Koburg and Summersberg Castle is just as much a must as a visit to the Gufidauner Kulturmeile (Gudon Cultural Mile), which takes place every two years and features artists of all types exhibiting their works.
A small artists’ town and former bishop’s seat, the little town at the bottom of the valley not far from Gudon also has its very own charm. Not only is there always something going on here, from “Gassltörggelen” to markets, long shopping nights, Christmas markets and summer festivals, but there is also a lot to explore, such as the Sabiona monastery, which can be reached directly from the town by several paths. The Brennero-Salorno bike path runs directly through the town, and the connections to the most beautiful hiking and skiing areas of the Isarco Valley are excellent!
